The Supreme Court Wednesday summoned Qamar Hussain, President of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), in a case pertaining to NBP employees’ reinstatement.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry heard the case on Wednesday.
The chief justice remarked that the bank’s president must testify.
During the hearing, the chief justice said on September 15, 2003 the court had ordered the restoration of the employees but the bank had not solved the problem.
Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said that the court will not permit wastage of public funds in this manner.
The Supreme Court has summoned the president on his own expenses today (Thursday). The order was issued after the president did not comply with the court’s earlier orders.
Justice Iftikhar said that the individuals who did not implement the decisions in 2004 will face the proceedings.
