The rain-hit farmers of Mirpurkhas demanded on Tuesday that the government should drain water from their lands so that they can cultivate kharif season crops.
Talking to the media during a visit to the rain-affected areas organised by the Participatory Development Initiatives and the People’s Accountability Commission on Floods, they complained that despite the passage of seven months since the rains, water is still accumulated in many areas of the taluka.
They said the administration is only making tall claims about pumping out water from their lands, but no appropriate measures have been taken yet.
They also complained that the Sindh government provided them with substandard sunflower seeds and they have been unable to cultivate any crop due to the accumulation of water in their lands and the inadequate steps by local authorities.
