The Sindh Assembly session on Tuesday was put off within minutes of its commencement at 11:35 am, against its scheduled time of 10 am.
Acting chairman of the House, Dr Sikandar Mandhro was quick to call it a day when Law Minister Ayaz Soomro requested adjournment as the lawmakers were due to attend the fourth Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference-2012, being hosted for the first time by the Sindh Branch.
Before the chair could adjourn the House, Arif Mustafa Jatoi of the National People’s Party drew the attention of the legislators towards the fact that the sitting was a private members’ day and that is why it is important for the lawmakers.
This made the chairman defer all the agenda items set for the day until Friday when the provincial legislature would reassemble.
The items on the agenda comprised a Question Hour on Services, General, Administration and Coordination Department, the introduction of Private Bill No 1 of 2012, The Protection of Religious Minorities’ Properties Bill, 2012, five private resolutions and motions, the introduction of amendment in the Rules of Procedure and presentation of the report of Standing Committee on Home with regard to the Control of Mainpuri and Gutka Bill, 2009.
