A student of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) was killed and two others sustained injuries when a wall adjacent to Mumtaz Hall collapsed in the Mughalpura police precincts on Monday night. The deceased student was identified as Moayyed Nasir, the student of 2nd year in Petroleum Engineering, resident of Jhang. The students of UET also staged a demonstration in front of Vice Chancellor Office and later blocked GT Road. They chanted slogans against the university administration and demanded action against the responsible people.
Local police reached the scene and dispersed the students after having successful dialogue with them. A police official told that a number of students were standing outside the washrooms of Mumtaz Hall in the university when all of a sudden the wall caved in. As a result, three students were trapped under the debris. Rescue teams after being informed reached the scene and recovered the three victims and rushed them to a local hospital. Doctors pronounced Moayyed dead while the condition of two others was stated to be stable. After hearing the news of the death, students came out of hostels and staged a protest. Mughalpura police reached the scene and handed over the body to the victim’s family. Police assured the student that justice would be done if anyone was found guilty.
