A police constable single-handedly thwarted a bank heist attempt in Nazimabad No 2 on Monday, killing two robbers in a shootout.
The Taimuria SHO told Pakistan Today that four bandits disguised as policemen entered a private bank after the snatching the repeater of the security guard deployed there, however, the branch manager rang the emergency alarm.
Confused, the robbers tried to escape when Police Constable Raheem Bukhsh of the Taimuria police station, who was also deployed outside the bank, opened fire at the escaping robbers and killed two of them after a brief shootout, the police official said.
“One of the robbers was killed on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the SHO added.
“Another bandit was also injured but he managed to escape with his accomplice.”
The police official said a Taimuria police van also reached there, but there was confusion as the robbers were wearing police uniforms and this helped the two of them escape.
“There were five robbers and four of them entered the bank, while one was waiting in a white corolla car outside the bank”, he added.
The SHO added said the police recovered a Kalashnikov, a repeater and a cell phone from the possession of the bandits and also impounded a motorcycle bearing a registration number of Lahore.
