The Sindh government on Monday lifted the four-year ban imposed on carrying weapons in the province. In December 2008, the Sindh Home Department had banned carrying and display of all kinds of weapons across the province through an order numbered ARMS/HD/11(01)/2007.
According to an order issued by the home department on Monday, the provincial government withdrew its previous order with immediate effect “in the best interest of arms licence holders”.
“Now there is no ban on carrying of weapons,” the order numbered SOJI/8-01/2012 stated. “It was being felt that the said ban is causing uncalled hassle to the licence holders who have to go through the ordeal of procuring ‘carry permits’ after obtaining legal licences,” it was stated.
“This ban was the longest and lasted four years so I decided to remove it, but displaying weapons would still be banned,” Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wassan told a post-session briefing at the Sindh Assembly.
