Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan hoped that regional campus of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) would be set up in Sialkot soon.
She said this during her meeting with AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi. The required land for the campus will be provided to AIOU by June next. She asked the vice chancellor to prepare the plan for the campus so that the students of the region could benefit from the distance-learning education and help the government achieve its literacy target, “Education for All”.
Firdous Ashiq Awan appreciated the efforts of Dr Sangi for expanding the university’s network all over the country. She also lauded the university’s role in providing quality and affordable education to the people at their doorsteps.
The vice chancellor briefed the minister on the future development plan of the university regarding establishment of new campuses. The university is already running its 36 campuses all over the country. More campuses would be opened in Gujranwala and Muzaffarabad by next month.
He told the minister that e-learning education, especially through video conferencing, was being rapidly promoted for the benefit of the AIOU’s students. The university has also started one-window operation at its main campus in Islamabad for helping the students. ‘Students Support Programme’ has also been undertaken for accommodating the poor students, the VC added.
