The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to field Marvi Memon and Seema Jilani in by-elections for National Assembly and would seek final approval from its chief Nawaz Sharif upon his return from abroad. Sources privy to the development told Pakistan Today that the award of party ticket to Memon was the first instalment in the chain of rewards promised under the deal between her and PML-N mediators for joining the party.
PML-N Secretary Information Mushahid Ullah also hinted at nominating Memon, a firebrand politician formerly associated with the PML-Quaid, by giving her party ticket in run-off election. Talking to Pakistan Today, he said in a careful manner that the PML-N was likely to facilitate her for by-election as soon as PML-N President Nawaz Sharif arrived back. Sources revealed that Seema Jilani got nominated from the vacant seat from Rawalpindi after Nuzhat Sadiq was elected as senator, while the vacant seat of Mamoona Hashmi from Multan was all set to be given to Marvi Memon. According to the 18th Amendment, political parties may change names on women’s seats and provide new names.
