Shopkeepers at the Lahore Fort Food Street are fleecing visitors by selling foodstuffs at exorbitant rates. According to a survey, rates of almost all items were higher than the open market. Beverages and bottled drinking water were being charged from Rs 5 to 10 per item extra. CDGL officials were looking after affairs of the food street but deliberately allowing sale of food items at high rates at these shops. When contacted, a CDGL official told APP that they were closely monitoring prices at the food street but exceptions existed. The administration, he said, had put complaint boxes for visitors. Shopkeeper Ramzan said that he was paying heavy rent for the shop and it was impossible for him to sell items at official rates.
