ITP issues 100, 432 fine tickets worth Rs 27.6m in 2012

With the objective to ensure safe road environment after making citizens more responsible toward traffic rules, personnel of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) fined around 100,432 vehicles during this year worth Rs 27.6 millions. Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has become model of excellence through its service-oriented policies and further endeavoring to come up to the expectations of the general public by ensuring traffic discipline in the city, said Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood while reviewing the overall performance report of the ITP during the ongoing year.
Dr. Moeen said ITP had got the image of corruption-free and people friendly force through hard work and eliminating the curse of corruption from the organization. “Elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are the operational codes of the ITP which has become the model of excellence for all law enforcement agencies in the country,” he added. During the year 2012, ITP issued 100,432 traffic violation tickets through which Rs. 27691600 revenue was generated. The SSP (Traffic) said education teams of ITP visit public & private organizations, trade and transport unions, universities, colleges and schools in order to inculcate road safety tips through road safety training. According to the data, 4922 motorists were fined for using mobile phone during driving, 11336 motorcyclists for not using helmet, 5662 motorists for not using seat belts, 766 for driving vehicles without licenses, 753 vehicles fined for having tinted glasses, 4871 for violation of signals, 2378 for parking vehicles in no parking areas, 8380 for careless driving, 1357 vehicles fined for being driven without registration plates, 4623 for neglecting other rights on roads, 1553 for driving vehicles without permit, 3126 for route violation, 951 for using pressure horns, 2860 for taking wrong turn and 3380 for lane violation. Similarly, 1061 transport vehicles were fined for carrying passengers in a dangerous position, 711 for having defective light, 1149 for driving on one way, 945 for driving on the wrong side of the road, 3310 for obstructing traffic, 5251 for overloading, 10059 for over-speeding, 66 for emitting smoke, 2860 for turning where prohibited, 1120 for using high beam during drive and 11258 for miscellaneous violation. The SSP (Traffic) Dr. Moeen Masood said that fine tickets are issued not as a punitive measure but the purpose is to make citizens more law abiding to ensure safety to their own lives on roads.
