The officials of National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) would next week clear their positions before the Sindh Assembly, where lawmakers will try to “uncover the conspiracy” behind erroneous registration of thousands of their voters in other provinces.
“There is some design somewhere,” Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah told the Sindh Assembly members on Friday.
The House would reassemble again on Monday to hear from the NADRA and ECP officials on reasons for the flawed voters’ lists.
Shah said that around 7,069 voters, including a taluka nazim, in his constituency were found registered in the Katchi and Shoro districts of the Balochistan province. “This cannot be a mistake,” Shah said, requesting the chair to call a joint briefing of the NADRA and ECP in the House.
Shah added that he was also ready to lodge an FIR against the irregularities.
“Both of them (NADRA and ECP) should be called in to clear themselves. Calling either the NADRA or ECP officials alone would lead to finger-pointing at each other” the minister said.
Earlier, PPP lawmaker Ghulam Qadir Chandio had also complained of errors in the voters’ lists as well as the shortage of time to get the same verified. “This is an eye-opener and shocking news for us to know that over 7,000 votes were shifted to Balochistan,” remarked Senior Minister Pir Mazahrul Haq.
On this, Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro said the officials from NADRA and ECP would be approached to brief the provincial legislators on Monday afternoon. “We are giving them two to three days to prepare for the briefing,” he added.
