The Senate on Friday unanimously passed The National Commission for Human Rights Bill‚ 2012.
The bill that was moved by Leader of the House Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, provides for the establishment of a National Human Rights Commission.
The House also unanimously passed a resolution condemning terrorist attacks on public rallies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was moved by ANP Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel.
This was the last session of the present Senate. Fifty Senators will be replaced by new ones on Monday. Four new members from minorities will also join the House, taking the total strengthen to 104.
The retiring members said the present House took a number of decisions for the strengthening of democracy. They observed the present Senate introduced eight legislations and passed 49 bills.
In his farewell address, Senate Chairman Farooq Naik thanked all the members for their support during his tenure in running the business of the House. He said parliamentary traditions were upheld and decisions made for the betterment of the country. The House was then prorogued.
