Locals, settlers get even slots as PPP South Punjab office-bearers’ names announced

After a lapse of at least one long year, PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on Friday finally approved the party’s office-bearers for South Punjab, reflecting the ruling party’s commitment to grant provincial status to Southern Punjab, also known as the Saraiki belt.
On April 11, 2011, Zardari had separated the party’s South Punjab chapter from Punjab and Minister for Textiles Makhdoom Shahbuddin had been appointed PPP South Punjab president.
Shahbuddin was also made party’s convener of the manifesto committee of the party for South Punjab.
Per an official handout issued by Rukhsana Bangash, the political secretary for President Zardari, the new office bearers have been appointed on the recommendation by Shahbuddin.
The list of the office bearers reflects that a balance has been observed in the appointments between the settlers and locals and a settler, Member of the Punjab Assembly from Multan city, Malik Aamir Dogar, has been appointed general secretary of the party while another local, Haider Zaman Qureshi, a youngster with a background of a lawyer, has been appointed senior vice president.
Mehmood Hayat Khan alias Tochi Khan, a member of the National Assembly from Vehari, has been appointed vice president while Hassan Askari and Khawaja Mudassar Mehmood have also been given the same positions of vice president.
PPP deputy parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly and a vocal voice, Shaukat Mehmood Basra, another settler from Bahawalnagar, has been appointed information secretary of the party while another settler from Muzaffargargh, Ahsanul Haq Naulatia, another MPA, has been tasked as deputy information secretary.
Nausher Langrial has been given the post of finance secretary while Jehanzeb Chaudhry has been appointed public relations secretary. Malik Abu Bakar Awan has been awarded the slot of coordination secretary whereas Sajida Malik has been appointed record and events secretary.
