A local court handed over on Friday three owners of the Kharak medicine factory to the police on a four-day physical remand. The Sabzazar police produced Zafar Iqbal, Zaheer Iqbal and Zubair Iqbal before the court and sought a ten-day physical remand to investigate the matter. Following the defence counsel’s opposition to the request, Judicial Magistrate Rana Rashid Ali Khan handed over the accused to the police and directed that they be produced again on 12th March.
A case was registered against the factory owners in the Sabzazar Police station under Sections 302/149, 324/ 427, 290/291 of the PPC. The Kharak pharmaceutical factory collapsed on February 6, 2012, resulting in the loss of 24 lives. The accused owners were arrested on Thursday after the Lahore High Court dismissed their pre-arrest bail application.
