On Women’s Day, Sunlight Human Development Network (SHDN) chairperson Nazia Iftikhar said that SHDN stresses the crucial role played by women in building a strong stable and caring society that fosters stability and healthy development.
She added, “Women form a vital part of humanity and their needs in the Pakistan deserve attention; especially in the areas of maternal healthcare, economic empowerment and education. In Pakistan, women are left to work for their families when the men of households are killed or maimed in conflicts.”
She said that women were rarely given any recognition or appreciation for their selfless and noble efforts. In developing countries, their contribution to the GDP was also unaccounted for due to the informal nature of their labour, she added.
She said further that the SHDN was working to eradicate the perception of female inferiority to men and had placed women and girls at the heart of many of its empowerment projects.
She added that the organisation was focusing on the education of girls and had implemented education programmes in the form of home schools and child-friendly centres in many Union Councils, particularly Faras Town, Kachi Abadi, Sangla Hill and Jakhara.
The SHDN chairperson said the organisation would launch a women’s project as part of a Sadaqah Jariyah Campaign this year.
