The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) organised a painting competition titled ‘Women and Development’ in connection with the International Women Day on Thursday
Former RAC director Naheed Manzoor was the chief guest at the ceremony.
More than 50 students from ten colleges of the twin cities participated in the competition to create artworks that depicted women’s contribution to the development of the country and the social issues they face.
Sana Sagheer from Government Degree College for Women Gawalmandi stood first in the competition, Sidra Kanwal from Rawalpindi Arts Council stood second while Amal Riaz Cheema from JSPS and College, Chaklala stood third. Manzoor distributed awards among the winners. Speaking at the ceremony she said: “Women’s role in every field cannot be downplayed. The empowerment of women is integral for the prosperity of any country.”
She added that without empowering women, the society cannot progress. She also emphasised the need to send girls to school.
