National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been successful in recovering huge amounts ranging in millions of rupees in various cases and about Rs1.088 billion have been recovered so far through the option of plea bargains during the first two months of current calendar year.
NAB Executive Board granted approval to these cases after thorough investigations based on merit.
The cases approved for plea bargain include Seth Nisar, businessman/beneficiary of Rs1,053 million; Muhammad Rahim Khan, former Additional Secretary, KPK of Rs 24 million, Amir Zaman Shinwari, former Superintending Engineer Pak PWD of Rs6.8 million and Ch Abdul Rashid, ex-Chief Engineer Pak PWD of Rs6.5 million.
Sources said apart from the task of prosecution, the important option of recovering the losses caused to the public exchequer is the soul and hallmark of NAB. Plea bargain is an effective and innovative tool to assist
in swift recovery of plundered money and to ensure that the proceeds are returned to the affected Organisations, departments, banks and are deposited in the government treasury. NAB is adopting a proactive approach to expedite the process of accountability which is obvious from the disposal of cases, they added.
