Pakistani women police officers joined the US embassy for a roundtable discussion on women in law-enforcement agencies to mark International Women’s Day. The Narcotics Affairs Section of the US embassy organised the event as part of its Women’s Police Programme. “Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had said, “No struggle can ever succeed without women’s participation. It is a healthy sign that women police in Pakistan were standing shoulder-to-shoulder with male police officers,” said Mission’s Deputy Chief Richard Hoagland. “The work you do keeping Pakistan safe is a tremendous contribution to your community, he told Pakistani women police.”
The roundtable was attended by American and Pakistani female law-enforcement officers, criminal justice experts, and police trainers. They discussed challenges and opportunities for women police in Pakistan. Panelists leading the discussion were Rose Byremo Olsen, Nordic Police Adviser; Brooke Williams, Political Officer, US embassy; Sarwat Hamid Butt, Deputy Director Crime Circle Record Office, Federal Investigation Agency; Dr Hina Jawaid Kalyal, assistant professor, National University of Sciences and Technology Business School; Simona Gallotta, mission of European Union.
