A student was shot dead by unknown assailants in Sindh University Jamshoro on Wednesday, two weeks after it reopened following more than two-month closure in protest against a teacher’s murder.
The reports said a student was sitting outside the university’s Arts Facility building along with his colleagues when unidentified armed men riding a motorbike targeted him.
The victim was identified as Deen Muhammad. According to medics he received three bullets in his chest and abdomen and died on way to hospital.
Two other students, one of them identified as Kamran, also suffered bullet injuries in the attack, and were shifted to nearby Liaqat University Hospital in critical state.
The firing incident sowed severe panic and fright among the students, suspending the academic process.
Police and Rangers arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.
The firing was second such incident in two months. The university witnessed a very grim and alarming situation in January when a professor was gunned down.
His murder followed teachers protest across the province, suspending overall academic activities in all universities of Sindh, with boycotts and protest demonstrations by teachers associations for the removal of vice chancellor.
