The Upper House of parliament on Tuesday passed a unanimous resolution condemning the burning of Holy Quran at a US base in Afghanistan and demanded that those responsible be punished.
The House strongly condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran by NATO soldiers posted in Afghanistan. The House also demanded the government approach the United Nations, international community and the United States for action against those responsible of this blatant act.
Calling it an outrageous act, the House also called upon Muslim countries to demand from NATO and United States to take an action against those involved in it.
“The Senate of Pakistan unanimously condemns in strongest terms the outrageous act of burning the Holy Quran by American/NATO forces at Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan on February 21, 2012 and calls upon the United Nations and International community to take effective action against those responsible for this heinous and blasphemous act,” the consensus resolution read.
It further said: “The House unanimously resolves that the government of Pakistan and all Muslim countries should demand that the government of USA and other relevant governments of NATO countries identify and punish those guilty of this crime”.
Later, the House unanimously adopted the resolution and the chairman directed to send the copies of the resolution to all concerned.
