CJP for eliminating corruption from lower judiciary

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday underlined the need to curb the menace of corruption in lower judiciary, as it not only undermines the image of the institution, but also hampers the administration of justice. He was talking to an 11-member delegation of newly-elected body of Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association headed by President Sheikh Ahsanuddin who called on him. The chief justice asked the delegation to pinpoint such elements along with credible proofs so that strict action could be taken against the delinquents. Felicitating the newly-elected body, he said: β€œIt is an honour for you people as you have been given the mandate as the representatives of the bar to work for their welfare and betterment.” A statement issued by the Supreme Court said the chief justice emphasised that the Bench and the Bar were the integral part of the same legal system. He appreciated the unprecedented steps taken by legal fraternity for rule of law, supremacy of the constitution and independence of judiciary in the country. The delegation informed the CJP that they were all companions of the movement to reinstate him as chief justice, and that the struggle had instilled in them the spirit to follow the path of constitutionalism in the country. They also informed the chief justice about the hardships faced by them and requested him to resolve the issues like shifting of Court of the Special Judge, FIA in the vicinity of Judicial Complex, Vesting of Powers of Rent Controllers in Judicial Officers and facility of library at lower level Bars.
