63 manufacturing units’ power cut irks KCCI

The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has expressed grave concern over disconnection of power supply to 63 manufacturing units in seven industrial zones of the city by the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC). KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmad has strongly reacted to the KESC’s unilateral decision to cut off power supply to the manufacturing units, which generate their own electricity with captive power plants and also use KESC electricity. In a press statement, the KCCI president quoted a media report according to which the KESC has prepared a list of 188 industries that use captive and KESC power. The KCCI president said industries using captive power are already paying fixed charges and due to the KESC’s one-sided decision, captive power industries will go to court and also approach NEPRA.  He further said the KESC made the decision during a meeting with some business people, who do not represent the entire business and industrial community of Karachi. “The unilateral decision by the KESC is unacceptable and will lead to agitation,” he said. “The KESC should stop further disconnections and restore power to the 63 manufacturing units,” he added.
