Accusing the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of pre-poll rigging, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Irfan Marwat on Monday warned that the aggrieved people of Karachi will protest and can choose the option of civil disobedience if reasonable measures are not taken for making new electoral lists. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi Press Club along with his aides from Azam Town and Mehmoodabad, the former Sindh home minister alleged that on the wishes of the MQM, names of at least 9,000 voters in his constituency were removed from the voting lists and 7,000 outsiders included illegally from other areas.
Marwat claimed that when the aggrieved people of the area tried to submit their objections according to the procedure outlined by the Election Commission of Pakistan, they observed that the MQM workers had occupied the polling centres and the staff members were looking pressurised.
“Due to the so-called policy of reconciliation, the Pakistan People’s Party is ignoring the issue and the activities of MQM,” he added. Replying to a question, Marwat demanded the provincial election commissioner and the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the issue otherwise the PML-N would not allow holding any elections on bogus election lists.
