Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry Tuesday said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is not willing to accept the judicial orders.
Heading a two-judge bench hearing a case regarding the correct voter lists, the Chief Justice Chaudhry remarked that no institution will be allowed to violate the Constitution.
He further noted the Election Commission, out of its own accord, fixed February 23 as deadline for finalization of voter lists; however, no implementation followed.
The rejoinder by the Secretary EC was read out in the court.
Giving explanation, the Election Commission said the members of the Commission were appointed on June 13, 2011; hence, they were not aware of July 4 order.
The statement said they were informed about the deadline of February 23 in December 2011.
The Chief Justice Chaudhry said it boils down to this the Commission members were kept in darkness.
The Secretary was of the view that it was due to flooding and law and order situation in some areas that factored the delay in preparation of electoral rolls. The EC meeting in September granted the extension in deadline for preparing voter lists.
The Chief Justice Chaudhry said it is the constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission to prepare electoral rolls on annual basis.

  1. CJP must take the reins of the EC in his own hands if free and fair elections are to be held

  2. Whenever i have read any thing about this person he has always been complaining that no body obey the orders. if he has any self respect and honor left in him why he not hangs up his shoes and go home.

  3. Phir kia karay CJ?? You should call the army to help you with the law and order and to ensure the free and fair elections..Kiyani and the army itself is fighting for the survival of Pakistan like all the 18 million awam is, only the mafia is trying not to.
