The prize distribution ceremony for the 3rd All Pakistan DHA Karachi Cup Open Golf Championship 2012 was held at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club, where Commander 5 Corps Lt. Gen Muhammad Zahirul Islam was the chief guest. A large number of golfers including senior professionals, amateurs, seniors, veterans, ladies and master golfers participated in the tournament held from 1 to 4 March. Appreciating the golf club for promoting golfing activity in the country and for organising the spectacular golf tournament, the corps commander said that it was heartening to see golfers from all over Pakistan and players of all ages and categories participating in the tournament with great zeal and enthusiasm.
“Golfing is a lively and fascinating activity that calls for application of mind, technique and demonstration of sportsman spirit reflecting healthy and positive trends in society,” he said. “The keenness of golfers is indicative of both the zeal for the game as well as promoting the national spirit as Pakistanis.” The overall total prize money of Rs 1 million along with other attractive prizes were given to various individual golfers who won the championship in various categories. In the ‘professionals’ category, Shahid Javed Khan (RPGC) won the coveted prize with below 5 par over 54 holes score while Waheed Baloch (KGC) and Amjad Yousuf (KGC) were second with below 3 par each.
In the ‘senior professionals’ class, Ghani Khan (KGC) with 73 score came first while Muhammad Iqbal (GYM) bagged the second position with 74 points. In ‘amateurs’, Muhammad Waseem Rana (DHA) was winner gross with 227 score while Zohaib Asif (DHA) won the net match with a score of 214.
