Traffic police collect Rs 24m fine in Jan-Feb

City Traffic Police (CTP) issued as many as 117,145 challan slips on traffic rules violations during first two months of this year, January and February while over Rs 24 million as fine money was collected from the rules violators. City Traffic Officer (CTO) Ghulam Abbas Tarar said that CTP has launched a special campaign under which action is being taken against unregistered vehicles and motorcycles and those moving on city roads without proper number plates. He said that grace period was also given to the motorists specially those who did not have registration or proper number plates. Now they are being fined and their vehicles are also being impounded.
He informed that special squads consisting of an inspector, four traffic wardens are in the field in all the three sectors of Rawalpindi city under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) of the circle. These squads are checking the vehicles and motorcycles which are without number plates, unregistered or number plates are not according to approved size and shape.
The vehicles are being impounded under section 550 in the respective police station if the driver could not provide the ownership certificate of the vehicle. Likewise, challan tickets are being issued to unregistered vehicles and those who are without proper number plates. All sector and beat incharges and traffic wardens deployed on point duties were directed to take special steps to make the campaign a success so that no one could violate the rules in future.
CTO said that special directives were issued that no one should be given any relaxation. Ghulam Abbas Tarar told that he himself is supervising the campaign and strict action is being taken against the violators.
He said that all out efforts are being made for the rule of law and CTP on traffic rules violations issued over 7.7 million challan tickets in 2011 with over Rs150 million fines.
AIOU admissions continue with late fees : Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is continuing admissions from Matric to post-graduate level programmes for the Semester Spring 2012 with late fee charges, across the country till March 9.
The admission forms and prospectuses for all programmes offered in Spring Semester can be obtained from the sale points at main campus, regional campuses and coordinating offices all over the country, this was announced by Director Admissions, AIOU Syed Zia-ul-Hasnain today.
He said that admission forms with required fee includes late fee charges can be submitted at the nationwide branches of First Women Bank, Bank Alfalah, Allied Bank and the designated branches of National Bank of Pakistan and Habib Bank Ltd, fee in shape of bank draft or pay order will not be accepted.
