Stay out of politics, Nawaz Sharif warns army generals

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Monday said army generals should stay away from politics.
“Stature and honour of the armed forces will increase if it limits itself to defending the borders of the country,” he said during a visit to the house of martyr Col Sheraz.
However, when a reporter sought his comments on the possible extension in the term of Inter-Services Intelligence Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, Nawaz said it was not the right occasion to respond to the question.
Commenting on the new provinces issue, the PML-N chief said the government needed to work sensibly on the matter.
Earlier, addressing the general council of PML-N Punjab at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Nawaz said his party was formulating a revolutionary programme to change the destiny of the country, bring prosperity to the people and raise their living standards.
He said those who raised slogans of electing Musharraf as president in uniform 10 times have now joined hands with those who had got red warrants issued against him. He said these elements had also accused the PPP of being thirsty for their blood.
Nawaz said such politics of hypocrisy could not help the country reach its destination and the time had come to bury politics of selfish interests. Nawaz congratulated Shahbaz Sharif on his unopposed election as the PML-N Punjab president and asked him to further accelerate the mission of public service.
He said the Punjab government had taken revolutionary measures for the uplift of education sector and the youth would benefit from programmes of setting up IT labs in high schools and distribution of laptops among talented students.
Nawaz said Pakistan was made a nuclear power in his era and this capability was achieved not with borrowed money, but with hard-earned money of the people of Pakistan. He said that Pakistan was proving its mettle in every sector during the PML-N’s rule and though sanctions were imposed as a punishment for carrying out nuclear tests, the PML-N leadership made a firm resolve to overcome all problems.

    People like Javed Hashmi and Dr Israr Shah who suffered at the hands of military establishments for democracy have been sidelined and those families are ruling who betrayed the masses and ran away from the battle field to save their lives. IRONY. TRAGEDY. Pakistan as a nation has a lamentable fate that such people have been written in our destinations. Too sad

  19. Nawaz is the biggest hypocrite himself. This guys should move out of Pakistan and quite politics if we really wants to bring the revolution.

  20. Nawaz Sharif was blue eyed boy of Zia-ul-Haq who inducted him in the government.. He did not know ABC of politics. He is product of miliitary regime. One is surprised when hear statement like these from this man. He poses to be champnion of independent judiciary. This is the same person who arranged an assault on supreme court. he has been tried before and was a complete failure. He will fail the nation again.

He has been fooled by zardari (numerous times), betrayed by his own COAS (Musharraf), misjudged how to handle his senior leaders (they joined PTI), miscalculated the present govt., ran away (to London) on every critical political juncture, turned his back on his followers (escaped to Saudi Arabia), lied about his agreement with Musharraf (10 year ban), has no answer to how he get his wealth. I can go on and on. As stupid as he is, does he think that the nation is more stupid than him because knowing all this, they will still vote for him? I hope not. Unfortunately, I think he may be right though. Sad. sad situation.

  25. 1) Nawaz Sharif is perhaps the worst thing that has happened to Pakistani politics.
    2) He is a gift of Zia.
    3) When Zia dismissed Junejo government, he immediately became a lota and took oath as caretaker Chief Minister.
    4) When he ran away to Jeddah in a humiliating manner, Chaudhrys decided to join Musharraf.
    5) Chaudhrys need to apologise for supporting Musharraf. At the same time Sharifs need to apologise to the nation for becoming lackeys of Zia, ditching Junejo and then running away from the country after striking a humiliating deal with Musharraf which should best be called Sharif Specific NRO and if Iftikhar Chaudhry has an iota of justice in him, he must take notice of this despicable NRO.

  27. Mr Gol Gappa, Pakistan achieved nuclear capability and in 1983 and buried the nukes in Chagai in 1985-86 after digging tunnels that took over a year to dig – you want to take all the credit for pressing the button?? Humpty dumty.
