Foreign Office to keep striving for national interests: Abbas Jilani

In his maiden address to officers of the Foreign Service of Pakistan (FSP) on Monday, Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani underlined that the Foreign Office was one of the premier national institutions and would continue striving to protect and promote Pakistan’s national interests. He said that in that pursuit and, as head of the institution, he would be guided by the country’s leadership and parliamentarians. He said Pakistan had always conducted its foreign relations on the basis of international law and UN Charter principles and that it would be his endeavour to work towards promoting peace, stability and prosperity in this region and beyond, according to a FO statement. The foreign secretary said Pakistan was a country with great potential.
He said the Foreign Office and Pakistan Missions abroad were fully committed to give their best to the country. He assured the officers of addressing their administrative problems on priority so as to further improve the working environment, enabling all officers to realise their potential to the maximum. Earlier, Additional Foreign Secretary Ikramullah Mehsud welcomed the foreign secretary on behalf of the officers and assured him of their full cooperation and support in the discharge of his professional responsibilities.
