Balochistan Assembly Speaker Aslam Bhootani on Monday moved an application in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) against Abdul Qadir Gilani. Bhootani requested the court to disqualify Gilani, as he pledged his Senate seat to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in return for development funds worth Rs 650 million. The petitioner urged the court to direct the chief secretary to stop the release of the funds. The Election Commission of Pakistan is also likely to take up the unique application filed by Bhootani against a ‘bartered’ vote of an opposition MPA for a PPP candidate on a promised payment of Rs 650 million to him.
