ANP eyes deputy chairman slot in Senate

Awami National Party (ANP), the ally of ruling PPP, has signaled that it would demand for the seat of deputy chairman Senate after strengthening position in the upper house.
Talking to a private television channel, central information secretary ANP, Senator Zahid Khan said “after emerging as second largest party of the ruling ally in Senate, we have a right to demand for the slot of Deputy Chairman Senate.”
The ANP, which rules northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, got 12 seats in Senate polls, second position in the upper house.
Khan said the PPP leadership would be formally demanded of the seat once the process of Chairman and Deputy Chairman Senate’s election drew nearer. “We will not withdraw from our principles,” Khan asserted.
The procedure of Senate polls is not formally completed as result of seven seats of Balochistan are yet to be announced by the Election Commission of Pakistan on Monday.
An official notification for final results will be issued next week.
