The police on Sunday arrested 23 people accused of torturing a woman and parading her semi-naked around a local village. According to the Kandai Police Station chief, the arrested men had allegedly attacked the house of a local person identified as Nadir who arranged love marriage with a girl Azra in Basti Sherwali of Muzaffargarh. More than 100 relatives of Azra stormed Nadir’s house to avenge the love marriage, and tortured the women present in the house.
The attackers allegedly tore off clothes of 50-year-old Manzooran Mai (maternal aunt of Nadir) and kidnapped her afterwards. Later, the culprits tore off clothes of the kidnapped woman and paraded her semi-naked in the local market for more than one hour. The police arrested 23 accused charged in the attack and torturing women and raids to arrest other accused were underway, sources said.
