‘Govt attaches importance to welfare of labourers’

The Punjab government attaches great importance to welfare of labourers, as besides implementing relevant laws for welfare of workers, best residential, educational and medical facilities have been provided to them so that they could live peacefully, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif said on Sunday. He was inspecting the Labour Complex on Defence Road. Punjab Planning and Development Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor was also present on the occasion. Shahbaz said that the Labour Complex was constructed on 47 acres land at cost of Rs 2.1 billion on Defence Road. He said that 1,296 flats have been constructed for labourers in this residential complex, adding that besides modern residential facilities, school, community centre, park, graveyard and other basic amenities have also been provided in this complex. Shahbaz said that most modern residential flats having all facilities have been constructed in this complex, adding that construction of Labour Complex by the Workers Welfare Board was an important step towards welfare of labourers. He said that these flats will be allotted to deserving industrial workers through a very transparent balloting.
Separately, Shahbaz chaired a meeting to review security arrangements during the proposed tour of the Bangladeshi cricket team to Pakistan. Bangladesh Cricket Board President Mustafa Kamal was also present. Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz said that Pakistanis were waiting for the tour of the Bangladeshi cricket team, which will be warmly welcomed in Pakistan. He said that sports of the international level will be promoted in the country due to the tour of the Bangladeshi cricket team, adding that the Punjab Sports Festival was continuing successfully in the city and thousands of players were taking part in the competitions.
