‘80 percent work of Ichhra flyover completed’

More than 80 percent construction work of the Ichhra-Muslim Town Flyover at Ferozepur Road from WAPDA Hospital to Gaddafi Stadium has been completed and hopefully it would be opened for traffic by March 23. Sources from the Punjab Communication and Works Department and the contractor company told APP that the construction work was being carried out day and night and there was no shortage of funds. Sources added that matters related to land acquisition, shifting of infrastructure of sui gas pipelines, electricity poles, telephone, sewerage, water supply and other litigations were resolved. The foundation work, pillars and fencing had been completed and placement of girders was also started at different portions and the remaining work needed three more weeks to complete.
Sources said it would take more time and cost than the Kalma Chowk Flyover which had been constructed in record 135 days with 660 metres length at a cost of Rs 2.3 billion. The estimated cost of Muslim Town Flyover was Rs 3.2 billion and it would be more than 300 percent larger than Kalma Chowk project by length and other scope of work. Referring to the design of the flyover, sources stated that one of the two main limbs of the bridge would be of 1.1 kilometres and the other of 0.95 kilometres besides a 350 metres branch lane from Kalma Chowk side which would be dropped at Wahdat Road intersection.
