Traders and citizens protested against Wapda for not removing live electricity wires in Bara Market that they say is severe threat to their lives.
The market was set up 38 years before in 1974 on Liaqat Road and is the most crowded and historical bazaar of the city. But lack of proper wiring of the electricity connections has turned it into death trap. Every where live wires can be seen dangling and at some places they are so low that a man of average height can become victim to them. “We go to Bara market to buy the goods particularly clothes at lower rates and not the death which is available there in the form of live dangling wires, said a group of ladies. A few days earlier I made narrow escape from touching a live wire when I was passing through Bara market. I raised my hand but all of a sudden my sister caught it saying “Baji death is over your head in the shape of dangling wires and you are raising hand”, said Shagufta Bibi a house wife. The citizens appealed to IESCO to streamline the wiring system in the market by removing live cables.
