Dog show draws large crowd

The German Shepherd Dog Club of Pakistan (GSDCP) in collaboration with the Kennel Club organised a two-day Seiger Dog Show at the Fatima Jinnah Park on Saturday. Many people from across the country attended the show in which a large number of German Shepherds were entered. Malik Adnan, a visitor, told Pakistan Today that he had come from Gujranwala to participate in the show. He said he and his friends had brought around eight dogs and three of his dogs had stood first in different categories.
He added that the competition added to the animals’ worth, as they could then be sold for higher prices. The GSDCP is affiliated with the World Union of German Shepherd Dog Clubs and is the officiating body hosting the Pakistan chapter of the International Sieger Dog Show exclusively for German Shepherd dogs. The show brought together over 180 German Shepherds from across Pakistan. An expert panel of international judges presided over the championship, including Herr Hans-Peter Rieker, who joined the show from Germany and Sig Luciano Mussolino from Italy. German Shepherd Dog Club Management Committee President Imran Husain hosted the Sieger Show 2012. These champion show dogs vie for the coveted prize of representing Pakistan at the World Championship for German Shepherd Dog’s held in Germany annually under the auspices of the World Union of German Shepherd Clubs (WUSV) of which the GSDCP is a member. Pakistan has won the world championship twice in 1982 and in 2010.
