PPP all set for senate elections

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday finalised its strategy regarding today’s senate elections in the Sindh Assembly during a meeting of the parliamentary party held at the Chief Minister’s House.
The meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister and PPP Sindh President Qaim Ali Shah was also attended by Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Khuhro, Deputy Speaker Shehla Raza, Murad Ali Shah and 81 MPAs of Sindh.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah said that today and tomorrow are very important days for PPP and its elected representatives. “After a long struggle and huge sacrifices made by our leadership, it is a matter of pride for us that there is democracy in the country and people are enjoying the benefits and fruits of its blessings.”
The chief minister said that many forces and politicians have made conspiracies and tried to derail democracy in Pakistan but the credit goes to Benazir Bhutto, who presented a policy of reconciliation in the country, which even after her martyrdom was continued by PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. “As such all major political parties are associated with restoring and strengthening democracy and democratic institutions with the result provincial autonomy was restored, NFC Award was approved and many constitutional and legal bottlenecks and other aspects achieved.”
Shah added that from the very first day, many forces were making conspiracies against the PPP but by facing all such elements, the party will gain majority in the Senate of Pakistan also.
Stressing upon the MPAs to uphold unity, solidarity and strength and bring success to party candidates for Senate, the chief minister said that all coalition partners will support the PPP candidates and play their due roles accordingly.
Expressing full confidence in the leadership of PPP, the Sindh Assembly members pledged their firm belief in the policies of Benazir Bhutto and the party programme. “The problems faced by the masses will be addressed properly and unemployment, economic disparities will be resolved while health, educational and social issues will be addressed accordingly,” they said.
The meeting was also addressed by Murad Ali Shah and Ayaz Soomro among others.
They emphasised upon all party members to show unity and strength to the party in elections for Senate seats.
