It’s always the empty gun that fires

The daughter of a head-constable was ‘accidentally’ shot dead by a student of B-Com at an academy situated in Usman Block of Nishtar Colony police limits on Thursday. The accused boy and security guard of the academy, who had handed over his gun to the boy, have surrendered before the police along with the gun. Police have registered a case against the accused persons and have removed the body to morgue for autopsy. The deceased student was identified as Noreen Sehar, the daughter of Nawaz, a police cop who had been recently deputed at the prime minister’s house in Defence. The victim was a student of BA at Babe-Arqam Academy.
The accused boy has been identified as Abdul Rehman, 20, resident of Nishtar Colony and a student of B-Com at the same academy. He was also working part time as an office boy at the same academy. It was learnt that the security guard of the academy, identified as Saeed, used to handover his 12-bore gun to the accused boy when he took a break. On the day of the incident, the accused boy was sitting in the small courtyard of the academy and was cleaning the gun in the guard’s absence. In the meantime, Noreen came out of the room and fell victim to the bullet fired by Abdul Rehman.
Noreen received injuries on the right side of her neck and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding. The incident created severe panic in the academy and the students rushed outside. The academy administration informed the local police who collected forensic evidence and took the accused boy and security guard into their custody.
Abdul Rehman told the police that he had no grudge against Noreen and he was trying to clean the gun when the accident happened while Saeed said he had left the gun with Abdul Rehman as he had done so every day.
