The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is a party of brave, courageous and devoted people, said Sindh Chief Minister and PPP Sindh President Qaim Ali Shah, while addressing the people at a ceremony to distribute auto-rickshaws among party workers at the Chief Minister’s House on Thursday.
“We are proud of PPP being the party of poor, but we own the people a lot and are continuously working for their rights,” he said.
Shah said poverty is at its peak in Karachi and to end unemployment, President Asif Ali Zardari has chalked out an effective plan, deciding that 500 rickshaws will be distributed in each district of Karachi. “In all 2,500 auto-rickshaws will be given to PPP workers,” he said.
The present government has launched many schemes for alleviation of poverty. An amount of more than Rs 70 billion have been disbursed during the past four years among poor and needy women. The government is providing jobs to unemployed youth on merit and as per their educational qualifications.
The chief minister said it was Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who first empowered women in the history of Pakistan, and provided the rights to youth, peasants, workers and students.
Shah said that under the government’s youth development programme, more than 170,000 youth were imparted training in various trades while being provided Rs 6000 to Rs 7000 as monthly stipends.
Earlier in their speeches, PPP Karachi Division President Faisal Raza Abidi and General Secretary Meer Ismail Brohi said that the rickshaws are being distributed among workers aimed at empowering them.
The meeting was attended among others by Muzaffar Awais , Rafique Engineer, Sajid Jokhio, Rashid Rabbani, Waqar Mehdi, Arshad Naqvi and a large number of party workers.
Later, the chief minister distributed the auto-rickshaws’ keys and vehicle documents among the recipient workers.
