The hard courts of Brisbane will host Australia’s Davis Cup tie against South Korea next month, captain Pat Rafter said Thursday. Australia are seeking a return to the World Group for the first time since 2007, and victory over the Koreans over April 6-8 would thrust them into a play-off for the elite tier in September. “The weather and the court are ideal for the boys and the conditions will definitely boost our chances of winning,” said Rafter.
“Both Bernard (Tomic) and Matt (Ebden) have had some excellent wins at the Brisbane International, so it’s a huge positive for them to return to a place where they’ve already achieved great results.” Australia’s team of Tomic, Ebden, Lleyton Hewitt and Chris Guccione whitewashed China 5-0 in their first-round Asia-Oceania zonal tie in Geelong last month.
