The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Pakistan recently organised a new members’ ceremony to acknowledge and welcome new members to the global family of ACCA.
The ceremony was held to celebrate the success and achievements of 197 new ACCA members from the Sindh region, who attained the membership milestone during 2011. These new members are a part of the vibrant ACCA community globally which now consists of more than 147,000 members in 170 countries.
The ceremony commenced with a welcoming address by ACCA Karachi Head Rehanuddin, who welcomed the guests to the ACCA’s growing family of members. He spoke about the challenges being faced by the members in Pakistan and globally, creating a greater need for accountants to demonstrate the value they can bring to organisations of all sizes and in all sectors.
Rehanuddin also spoke about the role of accountants as risk managers and its increasing importance and relevance in today’s world.
Keynote speaker at the ceremony, Central Depository Company (Pakistan) Ltd CFO Fazal Gafoor, advised the new ACCA members to diversify their skills and keep themselves updated to successfully counter the frequent changes in the accountancy profession.
In his address, Philip Morris-Pakistan Manager Internal Control and Chief Internal Auditor Adrian Yap addressed the members with regard to the value of ACCA qualification and how it will help shape their careers. He encouraged the members to work with values of professionalism, integrity, passion and innovation.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of many distinguished guests who represented leading organisations and top employers in Pakistan including PwC, KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co Chartered Accountants, Ernst & Young, Ford Rhodes, Sidat Hyder Chartered Accountants, ICI, Central Depository Company, Siemens Pakistan Engineering Co, Philip Morris, Meezan Bank, SECP, AKD Securities and SilkBank.
The new members’ ceremony was an exciting event with more than 120 participants representing new ACCA members, employers, learning providers and media people. To celebrate in its true sense, ACCA Pakistan arranged a session of stand-up comedy acts and networking by Saad Haroon, which was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience.
This was definitely one of the highlights of the exciting and interactive gathering at the New Members Ceremony 2012. Vote of thanks was given by Technology Trade Private Limited Executive Director Mubashir Dagia and ACCA Pakistan’s Member Network Panel chairman, who also spoke about the ACCA values and advantages of its global network.
