The system of checks and balances

More then two decades ago I asked my Pakistan Studies teacher how could a democratic constitution ensure that the leader selected would work for the best interest of Pakistan. She replied with a smile, “Checks and balances”. And explained that the Constitution has a number of checks and balances to ensure that everyone does their job honestly and in the best interest of the country.

Unfortunately, in the current PPP/ANP-led government, the checks and balances system of our constitution has been removed. When a government officer holds two or more positions, then the check and balance system won’t work. Best example is the Punjab government, where the CM was holding the post of more than 16 offices, including health, which caused many issues in Punjab, including dengue, fake flood camps, PIC hospital patient deaths etc. There is no “One Man Show” in democracy.

The check and balance for the topmost position in the government is different. The president’s orders can only be turned down on the intervention of the Chief Justice. Since 2008, the current government has been intent on destroying Pakistan. They have embezzled huge amounts from the public, they have reduced government institutions into losses turning their share prices down and then buying them off (like they are doing with BoK), fake and low quality purchases with kickbacks in each and every institution has destroyed our economy. Many foreign spies are roaming around in Peshawar with police escorts and worst of all a country that can generate more then 20,000MW power has been forced into loadshedding of 10 hours since four years now.

The CJ has tried his level best to stop this rape of our country, but he cannot stop or control everything. My Chief of Army, the virus has crossed your borders and entered the system that is called the government. Will you act after our country is burnt to the ground?
