PML-Q candidate in strong position as Punjab Senate elections commence

Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) candidate Kamil Ali Agha has a strong position in Senate elections, as a PML forward bloc vote to Mohsin Leghari could put the PML-N candidate in danger.
Sources said that PPP has committed to play its role in supporting Kamil Ali Agha and securing a Senate seat for him.
PML candidate Mohsin Leghari has created competition for Kamil Ali Agha but at the same time PML-N candidates are also in danger since if the forward bloc votes for Leghari then the PML-N candidate could be in danger of loosing its seats and the PML-N will not put its seat at stake for Leghari.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has 108 votes in Punjab Assembly, while its candidates including Babar Awan and Aslam Gill need 52 votes each for winning the Senate election.
A source privy to developments said that the PPP has put Babar Awan on first priority; Gill on second priority and Agha is its third priority. He said that Kamil Ali Agha needs only 10 votes to win the election. “The extra four votes from PPP would go to Agha while PML-Q would give him six votes and thus he would win the election,” he said. Meanwhile Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal announced the election process.
The election would be held on Friday (tomorrow) in Punjab Assembly (PA) premises with the voting starting at 9am and ending at 4pm. A Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) is must for every member. Punjab Chief Election Commission would be the presiding officer while members would cast their votes in Committee Room-II.
