The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Thursday kicked off a Spring Tree Plantation Campaign 2012 under which the authority will plant 500,000 saplings in different areas of the federal capital. The first plant of the campaign was planted at green belt between Khayaban-e-Iqbal and Service Road (North), Sector F-10. CDA Chairman Engineer Farkhand Iqbal, members of the CDA board, officers, officials of the authority, PM Task Force Chairman Faisal Sakhi Butt, children from different schools, environmentalists, representatives of NGOs, government employees, Islamabad Police, and people belonging to all walks of life participated in the event.
The CDA chief said the agency was focusing on planting the indigenous species, especially fruit and flowering trees including Chir, Pine and Kachnar. The CDA also organised a walk from Khayaban-e-Iqbal to Service Road (North), Sector F-10. The aim of this walk was to involve the general public in the efforts of ‘clean and green Islamabad’. Meanwhile, students of Roots College International G-8 also joined the walk.
