AIOU holds seminar for standardisation of research

The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) held a seminar on Thursday, titled ‘The Standardisation of University Journals and their Role in Promoting Quality Research’. The seminar was arranged by the Islamic Thought, History and Culture Department and the Arabic and Islamic Studies Faculty. AIOU Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies Dean Prof Dr Ali Asghar Chishti said the journals published from Pakistan’s national universities are often disregarded internationally. He added that standardising research was necessary for the promotion of quality research.
Chisti stated that the number of educational journals needed to be increased and their quality improved.
He advised teachers to allot research topics to their students based on current issues which could help to reduce the problems faced by the educational sector. International Islamic University (IIUI) Islamic Research Institute Director General Dr Muhammad Khalid Masood said assembling Arabic and Islamic Studies Department academicians from across the country was an accomplishment.
He stated that setting up forums to discuss standardisation techniques was necessary. On his suggestion, a committee comprising of senior academicians was set up. Masood added that the AIOU has initiated national development projects for which the university is recognised globally. Prof Dr Shabbir Ahmad Mansoori (Punjab Universty), Dr Baqir Khakwani (AIOU), Dr Qibla Ayaz (Peshawar University), Khursheed Nadeem (IIUI) and Dr Samina Awan (AIOU) also addressed the first session of the seminar.
National Language Authority Chairman Dr Anwar Ahmed was the chief guest of the second session while Dr Qudsia Riffat (AIOU), Prof Muneer (NUST, Mirpur), Dr Abdul Ghaffar (NUML, Islamabad), Dr. Abdul Qudoos Sohaib (BZU, Multan), Abdul Rehman Saleh (IIUI), Dr Abdullah Jan (AIOU), Dr Abdul Hayee (IIUI) and Dr Nighat Farooq (AIOU) were among the speakers for the second session.
