Two Christian employees of the Good Samaritan Hospital being run under a foreign non-government organisation (NGO) were abducted from Shamsi Colony, Orangi Town on Wednesday, police said. As per reports, four unidentified armed miscreants riding on a four-wheeler kidnapped two men, Vizvk and Indraz from Shamsi Colony, Orangi Town. Orangi Town police station SHO Sabir Khan said four armed men stopped a car taking the employees to work at the South Korean-run hospital near Naz Snacks Bar in Shamsi Colony. “They asked the occupants if anyone was Korean among them,” he said. “However, even when the hospital employees replied in the negative, the kidnappers took away the two men – a computer operator and an administration assistant in their car.” “No foreigners were in the vehicle that was stopped,” the police officer said.
Khan said the hospital is run by a South Korean charity and the Korean doctors, who work at the hospital, live within the premises. “We have sent teams to track down the kidnappers and recover the staff members,” he added.
One of the witnesses of the incident said that four men appearing to be Pakhtuns in a blue car intercepted the hospital employees and ordered them to get out. “Their driver fled the scene while three hospital staff members were bundled towards the kidnappers’ car,” he said. “But due to lack of space, they spared one of them and took away two employees.”
DSP Tariq Malik said the driver Nasir informed the police about the kidnapping incident. Both abducted persons were Pakistanis and residents of Mehmoodabad, police sources said. Police have started investigations after registering a case. Kidnappings by criminal groups for ransom are relatively common. Foreigners can be a particular target, with five foreign aid and development workers missing or kidnapped in Pakistan since last August. Reportedly, of the 10 doctors who work at the Good Samaritan Hospital, six are foreigners and the clinic treats mostly poor Pakistanis for a nominal fee.
