Polio prevention on CM’s discussion table

World Health Organization Special Advisor Dr Hussein A Jezairy along with his delegation met Special Assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Khwaja Salman Rafique and Secretary Health Punjab Captain (R) Arif Nadeem and discussed the strategy for the complete eradication of polio from Pakistan especially Punjab.
Khwaja Salman Rafique said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was making all out efforts for the provision of modern health facilities to the masses and under his guidance, Punjab health department would succeed in complete eradication of polio from the province.
Later, the WHO delegation attended a meeting held under the chairmanship of Health Secretary to review the polio situation in Punjab. The delegation included Dr Naveed Saddozai from WHO headquarters Geneva and In-charge WHO Punjab Dr Deborah Bettels. Punjab Health Special Secretary Daud Khan Bareach, Director General Health Punjab Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema, UNICEF representative Dr Mushtaq Rana, coordinator of Lady Health Workers Programme (LHW) Dr Akhtar Rashid Malik, District Coordination Officers and EDOs Health of various districts were also present on the occasion. Special Advisor World Health Organisation Dr Hussein A Jezairy said that the vaccine being used in the campaign against polio in Pakistan is of international standard and the same vaccine was used the world over. He said that polio was a fatal disease and that there was a need to vaccinate every child.
