Scores of MBBS students protested for revision of their results initially outside the University of Health Sciences and then outside the Governor’s House before finally meeting the health additional secretary on Tuesday.
Students from private and public medical colleges gathered outside the UHS in the morning. They were holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands. The students blocked traffic on both sides outside the UHS and Sheikh Zayed Hospital for sometime and then decided to take the strike outside the Governor House since the UHS VC was not present.
Students from public and private medical colleges of the metropolitan and from Faisalabad and Sargodha took part in the protest. A delegation of students then met the health additional secretary who listened to the grievances and promised to resolve their issues within two days.
“We will gather from SIMS and meet the health secretary today (Wednesday),” a student who was a part of the strike said. The secretary has also assured the students to set up a committee on the issue and to resolve it in a couple of days after consulting different HODs.
A UHS spokesperson however said the students had no justification for protest, as the committee has been set up to review the question papers of the second professional MBBS and any compensation could only be given if the committee members decide to review the papers. A delegation of students had agreed to these demands on Friday in which 28 principals from different medical colleges participated.
‘It’s a plot against the CM!’: ‘Red Tapism’ in the Health Department is trying to fail the policies of the chief minister, as the promotion of 700 doctors of General Cadre to post of Senior Registrars and District Specialists by transfer is in “doldrums”, Post Graduate Medical Officers Association said on Tuesday.
They further alleged that the case file was moving in between the Health and Regulations Department and Regulation Secretary was playing a “negative” role by delaying final signature on notification even after four weeks of SRC meeting.
This statement was given by PGMA President Dr Zafar Iqbal. He further announced that in case of any further delay District Specialist and Senior Registrar from all over the province will stage a sit in outside the office and the house of regulations secretary.
