The Pakistan-US talk process would start next month after months of tension in bilateral relationship, officials said on Monday.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Abdul Basit said the parliamentary process would be completed in the first half of March and both sides would start talks and resume bilateral visits. The US Charge d’ Affaires Richard Hoagland told a private TV channel that the administration was waiting for a response from the Pakistani parliament. The Parliamentary Committee on National Security has sent its recommendations for the parliament review and the parliament is set to begin debate after the Senate elections on March 2. The sources said that completion of the parliamentary process was expected earlier but certain incidence and events like the memo scandal had diverted attention in Pakistan. The process of repairing the relations was going on when a resolution on restive Balochistan, which Pakistan considers as a sensitive and its internal issue, was introduced in the US congress. Pakistan had conveyed its strong reaction over the Congressional hearing on Balochistan.
