The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice refused on Tuesday the bill on lawmakers’ dual nationality.
The bill (Pakistan Citizenship Amendment Bill 2011) was introduced in the lower house by MNA Tasneem Siddiqui. The new amendment seeks to disqualify dual nationality holders from assuming public office in Pakistan.
The decision emerged at the standing committee meeting, chaired by Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry, in which the body members refused presentation of the bill in National Assembly on the grounds that such a law already existed according to which a Pakistani citizen having dual nationality could not be elected as MPA or MNA.
