The protest of non-teaching staff, working in various educational institutions affiliated with the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), for regulisation of their jobs entered eighth days on Tuesday. Around 120 daily wagers gathered at D-Chowk and staged a demonstration. Carrying banners and placards in their hands, they raised slogans against the CAAD and the FDE high-ups for what they called injustice to them. The employees who have been working in the institutes of the FDE for the last 10 to 18 years have been staging demonstrations in front of the National Press Club, D-Chowk and other places since February 21.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Non-Teaching Staff Welfare Association President Sadaqat Abbasi said that over 450 people working with model colleges and 150 who have been working in federal government educational institutions had been awaiting regularisation of their jobs for the last eight months. He said the Cabinet Committee on June 23, 2011, had directed all government departments to regularise daily wagers. “In compliance with the Cabinet Committee’s directions, all the government employees, except those affiliated with the FDE had been regularized, but it is not understood why the Capital Administration and Development Division is using delaying tactics to regularise the FDE daily wagers,” he lamented.
